Effective communication is an essential foundation for employee engagement and therefore company performance, explains author and consultant Carol O'Connor

"I would characterize effective communication in two ways: directly and indirectly. And if I look at the direct approach first I'm looking at outcomes that I know results from good communication. Things like projects are completed on time and within budget, people adhere to a quality standard and most important employees feel motivated. Employee motivation is an aspect of engagement and engagement is an indirect way of characterizing effective communication because you don't get it unless communication is effective."  - Carol O'Connor
